The Saudi Ministry of Finance organized a workshop entitled “Open Data as a Strategic Source for Innovation and Growth" on June 21, 2026, in collaboration with the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), at the Ministry's headquarters in Riyadh, in the presence of data offices from entities across the financial ecosystem.
The workshop aimed at raising awareness of the concept of open data and its strategic importance in promoting transparency, fostering innovation, and enabling data-driven decision-making. It also highlighted leading practices and successful experiences in this field at both the local and international levels.
A number of specialists from the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) led its sessions, which included an introduction to open data and its economic and developmental impact, an overview of the National Open Data Platform and how it operates, as well as practical approaches to leveraging data for analysis and the development of innovative solutions and services.
The workshop also featured the Ministry of Finance's experience in publishing open data, and its outcomes achieved in enhancing transparency and facilitating access to data, and key practices, as well as reviewing the most prominent enablers and supporting factors that enabled the Ministry to activate the field of open data.
Representatives from entities across the financial ecosystem participated in the workshop, including: the General Authority for State Properties; the General Organization for Social Insurance; the National Center for Government Resource Systems; the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority; the Expenditure and Projects Efficiency Authority; the General Authority for Awqaf; the National Debt Management Center; the National Center for Privatization; the Non-Oil Revenue Center; and the Shared Services Program.
