As a significant contribution to the financial sector, The Saudi Ministry of Finance launched today December 3, 2025 the Financial and Economic Dictionary during the Budget Forum 2026, which reflects the ongoing collaborative efforts between the Saudi Ministry of Finance, the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language, and key government entities, including the Saudi Ministry of Economy and Planning, the Capital Market Authority, the Expenditure and Project Efficiency Authority, the General Authority for State Real Estate, the National Debt Management Center, the National Center for Government Resources Systems, the National Center for Privatization, and the Financial Sector Development Program.
The dictionary is designed to standardize financial and economic terms and provide accurate definitions in both Arabic and English. It aims to raise financial awareness, support academic and media content, and facilitate effective communication among government institutions, the financial sector, and the academic community. The dictionary includes more than 2,000 terms, each with precise Arabic definitions and their English equivalents, covering key concepts in fiscal and monetary policies, investment, economic planning, financing mechanisms, and market instruments. It was developed as an educational and cultural tool to support researchers, students, and decision-makers, contributing to higher quality performance and facilitating scientific and professional communication within financial and economic institutions.
On this occasion, the Deputy Minister of Finance for Communication and Media, Mr. Hassan Alshaikh, stated that the Financial and Economic Dictionary contributes to unifying financial language and concepts and enhances communication accuracy among government entities, as well as the private and academic sectors. This, he emphasized, supports the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 in building a developed knowledge-based economy. Mr. Alshaikh also highlighted that this dictionary is an extension of the Kingdom's pioneering efforts in empowering the Arabic language and harnessing linguistic and technological capabilities—including artificial intelligence technologies—to serve and advance the Arabic language.
The Secretary-General of the King Salman Global Academy for Arabic Language, Professor Abdullah Al-Washmi, explained that the publication of this dictionary is part of the Academy's continuous efforts to produce specialized dictionaries, as it serves as the primary linguistic authority for the Arabic language in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He noted that the Academy has, over the past few years, launched several specialized dictionaries in various fields, including energy, digital government, artificial intelligence, and e-sports. He emphasized that this marks a significant step toward building accredited Arabic references that strengthen the position of the language in scientific and economic disciplines, and praised this fruitful collaboration, which contributes to enhancing the presence of the Arabic language both regionally and internationally.
